In war time, all we have is each other. While nation states and governments battle for their own interests, we have more in common than we realize with those affect by war. Now is the time to provide care for one another. Our cultural sites and necessary infrastructure have been demolished. This is cultural erasure and I, for one, will not allow myself to sit idly by.
This Sunday, April 5th, I will be reading some of my poems at the Let Iran Live fundraiser hosted by those in the Iranian American community. This is a mutual aid fundraiser to help those Iranian and Afghan people who are affected by the unfolding war across Central Asia. Gathering in person and outside of these algorithms that seek to divide us and sell our data to the highest bidder is so imperative. Please come join us and revive your spirit with beautiful art, music, dance, and of course, poetry. We will be auctioning off local artisan items as well.
The fundraiser is this Sunday, April 5th from 1-5 pm at 6501 San Pablo Ave in Oakland. There will be lots of nourishing Iranian food like aush reshteh, kookoo sabzi, meat kotlet, delicious saffron and rice sholeh zard pudding, and other offerings.
All funds raised will go to the people who need help in Iran.
